【摘要】:Excessivelevelsofhydrogensulfideinthevaporphaseaboveresidualfueloilsinstoragetanksmayresultinahealthhazard,OSHAlimitsviolation,andpubliccomplaintsaboutodors.ControlmeasurestomaintainsafelevelsofH2SinthetankatmosphereforthoseworkinginthevicinityrequireaconsistentmethodfortheassessmentofpotentiallyhazardouslevelsofH2Sinfueloils(Warningx2014;H2Sisahighlytoxicsubstance.UseextremecareinthesamplingandhandlingofsamplesthataresuspectedofcontaininghighlevelsofH2S.).Thistestmethodhasbeendevelopedtoproviderefineries,fuelterminals,andindependenttestinglaboratories,whichdonothaveaccesstoanalyticalinstrumentssuchasagaschromatograph,withasimpleandconsistentfieldtestmethodfortherapiddeterminationofH2Sinthevaporphaseofresidualfueloils.ThistestmethoddoesnotnecessarilysimulatethevaporphaseH2Sconcentrationofafuelstoragetank.Itdoes,however,providealevelofconsistencysothatthetestresultisonlyafunctionoftheresidualfueloilsampleandnotthetestmethod,operator,orlocation.NogeneralcorrelationcanbeestablishedbetweenthisfieldtestandactualvaporphaseconcentrationsofH2Sinresidualfueloilstorageortransports.However,afacilitythatproducesfueloilfromthesamecrudesourceunderessentiallyconstantconditionsmightbeabletodevelopacorrelationforitsindividualcase.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthefielddeterminationofhydrogensulfide(H2S)inthevaporphase(equilibriumheadspace)ofaresidualfueloilsample.1.2Thetestmethodisapplicabletoliquidswithaviscosityrangeof5.5mm2/sat40x00B0;Cto50mm2/sat100x00B0;C.ThetestmethodisapplicabletofuelsconformingtoSpecificationD396GradeNos.4,5(Heavy),and6.1.3Theapplicablerangeisfrom5to4000partspermillionbyvolume(ppmv/v)(micromole/mole).1.4ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
